I have a friend who is 17 years old and his parents ran up an unpaid cable bill in his name. When he turns 18 his credit is going to be horrible I think the amount ran up was in excess of $500. What can he do to fix his credit? He is thinking about turning his parents in but doesn’t know how much trouble they will get in. Please can you help?

umm… hate to say it, but the parents obviously had no concern for their child, so if i were the friend, i would absolutely turn my parents in.. wtf?! he shouldve have to suffer the consequences of his parents illegal poor decisions. he needs to take a stand and support his legal rights. while $500 isnt much, if hes just starting, thatll make it more difficult. time to talk to a lawyer, i believe.
There are two issues. One, as a 17-year-old, your friend cannot enter into a contract, even one with a cable company.
Two, he can get a police report for the identity theft.
Your friend can pursue one or both these courses to get the cable bill liability removed.
