My identity is stolen…now I have no idea what to do? Called 911 and they stated it can be someone close to me who know some of my information. What are some steps I can take now? Also, if its stolen can I still write checks to others? What will happened now? Please help….

First and foremost, notify your banks so they can keep an eye on your bank accounts. They should be able to advise you about writing checks, using your bank cards, etc. Second of all, contact all the major credit bureaus – Equifax, Transunion and Experian and to put a “freeze” on your credit (so no one can open lines of credit in your name). You can also find out what the most recent activity is when you call these places too. Third, notify the police and file a report.
I hope this helps! It hasn’t happened to me before, but it happened to one of my friends. Her bank replaced the stolen money but they never caught the guy. She lived in CA and the guy lived in Michigan. They don’t know how it happened.
